I got to know the music of Tihamér Vujicsics’s collection on a CD which I happened to hear. I was given it as a present, and it had on it a good hour of the music of the southern slavs living in Hungary. As I have long had a fondness for this musical world, I decided to use music from it as the basis of the trio I had planned as the continuation of my Duo Concertante for two violins. It is written for two violins and viola and makes free use of the original vocal and instrumental folk music, subjecting it to variation and development. The slow meditative introduction is followed first by a bagpipe tune in moderate tempo, and then a virtuoso baroque-flavoured allegro, says the composer about his piece.
