Iván Madarász (1949– ) Hommage à 19th Century

The composer does not tribute to the 19th century with stylistic games. He rather concerned about music theory when writing this piece. He says, ”The functional sense of the 19th century significally widened the circle of attractions and affections compared to the classicism, it led composers towards other ’sound-poles’. This means that new periferial tunes came into the center of the musical piece (called by musicians the tonic) while periferia-tunes happened to be in connections which had not been used before and became parts of new combinations. In each variation of my piece other and other auxiliary note combinations act as a point of rest or the periphery endeavouring to the center.”
