The comments of the composer to the works:
”Nowadays the titles of compositions seem to be more important than they were earlier. Earlier style periods presented basically a broadly unified picture regarding musical sound and thinking, it was enough to refer to the general formal distinctions to differentiate between works (e.g. sonata, symphony, string quartet). By contrast the heterogeneous world of art today demands more from the title, namely a reference to which direction the listener or performer should set off in to "understand" the work. This is how the carefully chosen titles of my clarinet pieces are also to be understood.
Valet – an old German expression derived from the Latin, meaning farewell. Here I say farewell to my much loved and esteemed teacher Endre Szervánszky. I have also given the same title to the version of the piece I wrote for clarinet and string quartet.
Sententiola – opinion, giving an opinion.
Novellette is the title of a set of pieces I wrote for solo instruments. With this title I refer to its literary meaning of narrative. I originally composed No.4 for bassoon, and have revised it for clarinet with the number 4/B. No.6 was written for bass clarinet.”
